What is Freedom?

We suffer from a great illusion with reference to freedom. We falsely believe that freedom means to become free of something. We are not as much interested to move towards freedom as we want to be free of that which we feel suppresses us or puts constraints on us. For instance, take the case of sex instinct. When we feel burdensome by it we want to be free of it. So it is not the freedom we want to achieve but from from. The actual thing is to understand the meaning of freedom. It means that one has a choice. It is in my hands to decide to indulge in sexual activity or not. We want to get rid of anger in order to be achieve freedom from it, but we do not realize that then there will be no freedom that one can decide when to be angry and when to be not. Hence in order to get out of such erroneous perspective, one should not adopt the trajectory of freedom from something. The movement towards freedom is positive while that of freedom from is negative one. If I get freedom from sex or anger then nothing will be left there in return. But if I move towards freedom, then it means that things are still in my control. I have my energies with myself. They are always available to me and I have not suppressed them that they become the part of my unconscious and control me without my knowledge. We cannot destroy the energy. We can transform it. Life is full of energy. We need to understand the it. By understanding we become free where we gain the mastery over our energies. All of them are needed during the course of life. Getting freedom from them is not the solution. The real and true solution lies in our freedom when to utilize them. Freedom lies neither in suppression nor in expression. It lies in the discerning sense when to employ.
